David Kasper (1980) graduated from the Vienna University of Technology and holds doctorates both in technical science and in medical science (2006). After his \u201cHabilitation\u201d (2011), he became Associate Professor and within 6 years, Head of the Main Clinical Laboratory of the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, Medical University of Vienna, the Austrian Newborn Screening Program and the Laboratory for Inherited Metabolic Disorders.<\/p>

David is very active to develop different methodologies to expand the screening panel, such as lysosomal storage disorders, immuno assays and next generation sequencing for genetic confirmatory testing from dried blood spots. His career long biomedical research focus has been on different topics in pediatrics such as neonatal infectiology, oncology, nephrology and hematology. Hereby, his specific focus is on the development and evaluation of novel laboratory assays in routine environment to improve and accelerate diagnostics in child.<\/p>

He has given a large number of presentations all over the world. He is (co-)author of 30+ peer-reviewed publications.<\/p>

David received three prizes: \u201dINiTS Award 2006\u201d for the best diploma thesis, and \u201dLeistungsstipendium der TU Wien\u201d for extraordinary achievements of students, as well as the \u201cOtto-Thalhammer Prize\u201d from the \u201cAustrian Society of Pre- and Perinatale Medicine\u201d in 2013.<\/p>

On May 8th, 2013 Dr David Kasper received the Dussault Medal from Dr Ken Pass, ISNS President, and Mr Craig Cartwright (Bio-Rad) at the joint APHL-ISNS conference in Atlanta (GA), USA.<\/p>
