Dr Victor Ra\u00fal de Jes\u00fas was trained at the Georgia State University (MSc 1997) and subsequently at the Georgia Institute of Technology (PhD 2001). After several research positions he joined the CDC Newborn Screening Quality Assurance Program (NSQAP) in 2006.<\/p>

He has made significant contributions to the application of tandem mass spectrometry (MS\/MS) assays for early detection of newborn disorders and has identified new and better laboratory procedures. Most notably, he has led the programmatic undertaking to achieve full QA program coverage for all MS\/MS detected disorders identified by the American College of Medical Genetics\u2019 (ACMG) 2006 NBS Uniform Panel.<\/p>

Dr. De Jes\u00fas efforts have also resulted in establishing a highly-recognized QA program for the newly initiated NBS by MS\/MS for lysosomal storage disorders (LSD) worldwide. In addition, he has lead and improved the NSQAP\u2019s LC\/MS\/MS activities for quality assurance of 2nd tier testing for congenital adrenal hyperplasia.<\/p>

He received several awards, such as the\u00a0Honor Award for Excellence in Public Health Practice \u2013 Service<\/em>, National Center for Environmental Health\/ATSDR Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has (co-)authored more than 20 publications and has been an invited speaker to many conferences.<\/p>

On May 8th, 2013 Dr De Jes\u00fas received the Dussault Medal from Dr Ken Pass, ISNS President, and Mr Craig Cartwright (Bio-Rad) at the joint APHL-ISNS conference in Atlanta (GA), USA<\/p>
