A new article has been published in the Journal of Community Genetics on the knowledge and attitudes of mothers regarding newborn screening tests in Jordan. The study shows that while most mothers showed positive attitudes toward newborn screening, there remains a lack of knowledge on the procedure. The study highlights that the mothers’ knowledge mainly came from the nurses, revealing the importance of health professionals’ educative role. The study also shows that the more knowledge the mothers had on newborn screening, the more they showed a positive attitude towards it. These findings confirm the importance of better awareness and education on newborn screening among healthcare providers in Jordan in order to expand this knowledge to the mothers and enhance their attitude about newborn screening tests.
